Biography

Daniel Benson (born May 19, 1997) was formerly known as Buju before he switched it to BNXN (Benson). He is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and rapper who came into the spotlight after featuring Zlatan Ibile in one of his “Spiritual remix” songs in 2019.

Early Life

The 25years Superstar was born into the family of Mr&Mrs Benson in Gbagada, Lagos state. He relocated with his family to Mowe, somewhere in Ogun State, where He spent most of his formative years.

Buju originally hails from Akwa Ibom state, and his father, from the Southsouth region of Nigeria.

Buju(Bnxn) was born into a Christian family where he learned the basic faith of his Christianity.

He developed his newfound skill and passion for music while listening to some top Nigerian artists like 2Baba, D’banj, 9ice, and more. In time, He uncovered his ability to write songs and freestyle. He also gave himself the nickname, Drizzle. He later stopped music for a while and decided to work on himself, and refined his tone by being inspired by some bigwigs in the industry like Burna Boy, J Hus, Buju Banton, and more.

He got employed as an I.T. student after university but was fired due to his negligence towards his work and was always listening to songs.

Career

Bnxn released the extended play project Sorry I’m Late on 27 October 2021, under the management of T.Y.E/EMPIRE. It featured guest appearances from Nigerian Highlife music duo, The Cavemen, and production from Steph, Perlz, Denzl, Timi Jay and Rexxie. It was mixed and mastered by Vtek and Poppil. Motolani Alake of Pulse Nigeria said that it “projects confidence, wins and ‘comfort”. Buju performed his first show in London on 30 November, marking the beginning of his Sorry I’m Late tour.

On 22 December 2021, Buju headlined his first sold-out concert, which was also his debut concert in Lagos. held at Balmoral Convection centre, Lagos.

In 2022, Buju officially changed his name to BNXN to avoid confusion for being mistaken with Buju Banton and having more unique branding. In March 2022, he collaborated with Pheelz on the single “Finesse”; the song peaked at number 52 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart. In July 2022, he featured on the Jae5 song “Propeller” alongside British rapper Dave. The song became Bnxn’s first Top 40 single in the United Kingdom, entering the chart at number 38.

On 4 September 2022, Bnxn won The Headies 2022 Next Rated award which was held on Sunday at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
In October 2023, Bnxn released his debut album, Sincerely Benson. The album featured appearances by a variety of artists including Headie One and Popcaan.
