The Blues return to winning ways after against their arch-rival Tottenham in the London derby at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have struggled in their last two games after losing 5-0 to Arsenal and playing a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. Tottenham on the other hand suffered a 3-2 defeat to league leaders Arsenal at their home ground

Both teams were looking to bounce back from their difficult weekend game but it was Chelsea who sealed a 2-0 victory.

As it happened

Chelsea made one change at the back with Alfie Gilchrist coming in for the injured Thiago Silva while Trevoh Chalobah was moved to centre back.

Ange Postecoglou made five changes from his Tottenham side that lost to Arsenal at the weekend. Maddison, Hojbjerg, Bentancur and Maddison were dropped to the bench.

Chelsea started the game brightly and looked dangerous in the opening stage of the game but could not get the first goal.

However, it was not until the 24th minute before Chelsea scored the first goal. The Blues got a free-kick 40 yards from goal and the ball was played into the box for Trevoh Chalobah, who thumped a brilliant header into the back of the net.

Tottenham pushed to get an equaliser before the halftime break but could not get past the Chelsea defence.

The second half started with more intensity for Tottenham but their pressure did not cause any havoc for Chelsea.

The Blues scored the second goal of the game to kill Spurs hope of an equaliser in the 73rd minute. Cole Palmer’s wonderful free-kick hit the underside of the bar and bounced back out for Nicolas Jackson who looped home a header.
