D’banj captivates fans with energetic performance at Trace Live to celebrate his 20th anniversary.
Renowned for his dynamism and engaging stage presence, D’banj—also dubbed ‘The Entertainer’—proved that his zest for performance has not dimmed, thrilling fans at Terra Kulture Arena, Victoria Island
The concert, which marks his 20th year in the music industry, was a night to remember, filled with nostalgia and fresh energy.
Hosted by Lasisi Elenu, the evening began with light banter by the content creator, who was joined by stand-up comedian, Pencil, just as DJ Consequenceentertained with hit Afrobeats songs. The show opened with a performance by multi-talented act, Nas Boi, who got the audience moving with his anthem, Umbrella.
D’banj, making a grand entrance, was accompanied by his impressive 14-piece band, including two-time Grammy Award-winner, Lekan Babalola, and acclaimed guitarist, Fiokee. They traversed through D’banj’s musical odyssey, starting from his 2004 breakout hit Mobolowowon, receiving a warm reception from fans across generations.
Impressed by the appreciation of his music by younger members of the audience, D’banj quickly interrupted his first song performance to acknowledge the transgenerational impact of his music.
He remarked, “I see Gen Zs in the building and everyone singing along to Mobolowowon. From that first song, the performing musician immersed the audience in his repertoire of classic songs for the entire one and half hour set.”
He went on to perform songs from the forthcoming project, such as Taya (featuring Zlatan, Timaya, Kayswitch, Bhadboi DML), Since 04, and Serious. The concert was punctuated with a performance by Reekado Banks and intermittent hype by D’banj’s official MC Jimmy.
